Here is Rivals' ranking of the top 10.

RNK TEAM # 5 4 3 AVG TOT
 #1 Texas 23 1 16 6 3.78 2,410
 #2 Alabama 19 2 12 5 3.84 2,195
 #3 Florida 18 0 10 7 3.50 1,644
 #4 Florida St 17 2 5 10 3.53 1,602
 #5 LSU 17 1 7 9 3.53 1,595
 #6 Oklahoma 17 0 10 6 3.53 1,530
 #7 Ohio State 17 0 8 9 3.47 1,510
 #8 Stanford 21 0 8 12 3.33 1,471
 #9 Clemson 21 0 7 11 3.10 1,401
#10 Nebraska 16 0 10 4 3.50 1,396

For average stars, NU is #7 (And, NU is hurt by having a kicker, who
is in the top 10 for kickers, but all kickers except one have fewer
than 3 stars and the top kicker has 3 stars. I guess kickers don't
matter much until your team misses a FG.)

NU ranks below Texas and OU in the Big 12, but ranks behind only
Ohio State in the Big 10. Others in the top 50:

 #1 Texas
 #6 Oklahoma
                  #7 Ohio St
        #10 Nebraska
#16 Texas Tech
#20 Oklahoma St
                 #25 Michigan St
                 #27 Michigan
                 #32 Iowa
                 #33 Wisconsin
                 #40 Indiana
                 #41 Minnesota
#42 Kansas St
#44 Texas A&M
#47 Kansas
#48 Missouri

I know that the recruiting rankings don't dictate or determine
future performance, but there is a correlation between getting
fast, big, and strong athletes and football success. And, NU's
staff seems to have a good eye for talent and ability to develop
skills.
