I agree Joe....there is no way possible to stop all helmet to helmet hits. Players should be taught that the helmet is there for protection and not to be used as a weapon or for tackeling. Helmet to helmet contact is going to happen on occasion due to the offensive player sometimes lower his head to protect his ribs (going into a fetal type position) and that is not going to be stopped.
My oldest son is a freshmen in high school and my youngest a 7th grader, and both are taught not to use their helmets while tackeling or blocking. But coaches, players, parents, and fans have to understand that helmets are going to meet helmets no matter how good the coaching, no matter how safe a player trys to be it will never be totally stopped. What has to be stopped is the intentional use of the helmet in trying to hurt someone. And no matter how good the coaching that will never be totally stopped either.

oh, forget Nebraska Football for 10 minutes.

The San Francisco Giants just won the World Series!

Lynette, are you happy now??!!!!!! Yessssssssssss.

OK. Back to Football.

Last year on TV, I watched a California HS team (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame) v a Texas High School football in a game that was at the Jerry Dome. Apparently, California players can only tackle below the waist, while the Texas kids had no such restriction. Both teams were to play by the rules of their respective federations. That seemed absurd to me.

Let's face it, the game is violent. Helmets, while adding protection, also give one a sense of safety and fearlessness. If Bo, Carl and company teach the kids correctly, there shouldn't be an issue, but the heat of the game is what it is.

joe big red
go giants!
