Right now, yes, but potentially important in the future.
If NU and Missouri win out, as both are favored in each game, then both
teams would finish 11-1. NU would play in the Big 12 Championship
game. If NU were to lose that game, NU would be 11-2 and Missouri
would be 11-1. Missouri could be selected ahead of NU if the Big 12
gets a second BCS berth or in the Big 12 non-BCS bowls. I think that
happened to Missouri when they beat KU for the North title but KU was
selected for a BCS berth when Missouri lost in the Big 12 Championship
game. Of course, NU will have historical prestige and a reputation
for traveling well, which might help in the selection process (if
money still matters).
