Sports Illustrated had a cartoon showing the field, which was quite funny.

Yeah, but remember they made up for it a few years later, against Alabama I believe, where 'Bama appeared to score a legitimate TD late in the game but the receiver was ruled out of bounds in the end zone.  Replays clearly showed the receiver in bounds, just as the replays in the NU game clearly showed the receiver out of bounds.  Guess where that patch of turf came from that "extended" the sideline a few years before?  Out of the other end zone!  That, my friends, is a strangely shaped field!  Talk about your home field advantage.
