Big XII can't go on the offensive because it's all about TV revenue. The reason this hits now is because the TV contracts are due to be renegotiated. Adding TCU, CSU, Air Force and Boise State doesn't add enough of a TV footprint to add anything to the negotiations. The best the Big XII could do was try to partner with the Pac-10 (which was discussed). The problem is, the Pac-10 decided why partner and share the revenue when we can add the TV sets that matter (Texas and Denver) and keep all that revenue for ourselves.

Maybe I missed it, but I'm still trying to see where the assurance is from the six schools discussed to join the Pac 10 won't still bolt even if NU and MU make their commitment to the Big 12. One of the "what if" scenarios has to be if we commit to the Big 12 but then still get left behind with no Big Ten dance partner to turn back to.

If the trend is towards 16-team conferences, why doesn't the Big XII go
after TCU, Colorado State, Air Force, and maybe Boise State? TCU and Boise
would probably jump at the chance to join a BCS conference, CSU and Air
Force would raise interest in the state of CO quite a bit, and AF would add a
whole additional military, non-geographic, demographic to the fan base. Air
Force also brings a couple of Service Academy bowl tie-ins that are
separate from the BCS conference guarantees as well. I am partial to the Falcons,
but I think in most seasons lately, they are good enough to be a
middle-third team in the Big XII and qualify for a bowl game.

Just thinking maybe the Big XII should go on the offensive instead of
waiting for the older conferences to try and pick it apart.

In that situation you have 4 divisions and you have a conference semi-final
as well as final. I've heard that proposed before and I think that's
what
the NCAA most fears. Because these 'super conferences' can tell the NCAA
to
shove it and do their own thing.

I was watching ESPN U today. -- And they had a long segment on the Big XII
and Pac 10 stories - One scenario they mentioned that we haven't seen much
of out of the midwest is that the Big XII and Pac 10 could fully merge -
making a 22 team league.

That seems really ridiculous! In most sports you would never play every
team
in the league in any one season! How would they even do that?

I hope Nebraska uses this new found "power" to it's advantage and Dr. Tom
plays tough! If we're gonna stay in the Big 12 we need some Texas sized
benefits!

Mizzou is probably thinking the same!

Go Big Red! At least it's not just another dull "post spring game - how
many
days til Football starts?" summer!
