Same thing as if we tried to reconstitute the Big 8 conference.
Disaster.  We make a good compliment to other teams like the ones in
the Big XII, some with money, some without.  We are the economic
engine of the Big XII North.  While we haven't lived up to
expectations on the field, we do continue to bring in the revenue.
But without the big money engine in Texas, assisted to some degree by
Oklahoma, we'd flounder and die.

Notre Dame has probably got the only world wide fan base that allows
them the ability to stay independent.  Look at their record over the
last 10 years or more, and you'd think they'd jump at a chance to go
into a conference.  Until last year, truly awful.  But they have still
generated the revenue to stay where they are.  Its likely that only
Texas has the money to go independent, but not the "tradition" to get
games with conference teams during conference schedules the way Notre
Dame does.  No way does Nebraska have that kind of pull.
