It's even more amazing to think they might actually try to force Baylor (not even a public school) into the arrangement. That just really seems to be out of whack, especially in Texas, where they pride themselves on a lack of strong central government regulation.

Rule 1. In matters of religion, decisions are not always the result of
consistent logic. Reportedly, the legislature and (then) Gov Ann
Richards forced the Big 12 to take Baylor (Richards' alma mater), rather
than TCU.

Rule 2. When there is a lot of money on the table, principles can become
somewhat malleable. The Big Ten and Pac Ten both see a lot of money on
the table in Texas. We'll see if the Big Ten is willing to compromise
far enough to swallow TxT and Baylor to get UT; the Pac Ten obviously
has no reservations. And that could put NU in a precarious position,
unless they have a Big Ten offer in their hip pocket. If UT's threat to
take the Big 12 South to the Pac Ten isn't a bluff (I tend to think it
is a bluff), the whole Big 12 North could wind up in the lurch.
