Would love to agree with you and dismiss that idea, but...

NU = great program and tradition but small population.
Traditions and programs fade, but populations do not.  If this discussion
were happening during our 5-7 year, we might be a bit more alarmed.

NU would provide some GREAT matchups, but...
The value of each 'league' isn't tied to great matchups so much as it's tied
to TV and populations.

If NU were 'banished' to a lesser conference... after a few years, would we
really be missed?  We're just this charming outlier of a program who's name
reminded folks of the good ol' days...

And does any big school want to risk another loss every year by having to
play a team that doesn't bring more eyeballs?  You'd almost rather add iowa
state, so that you get another team, but it's a team you can throttle at
will.
