I liked this little story a lot. Thanks, Jon. It inspired me to
tell my own. :)
My oldest was a distance runner at Purdue almost 10 years ago. I
don't know how many of you have been to cross country meets, but the
courses usually include loops in several different directions that
sometimes cross in places. If you know the course, you can see the
pack come past many times by running between locations (sometimes it
takes a pretty hard run, but the sport is inspiring enough to spur
the effort). Anyway, my son once told me that his teammates would
tell him, "Robert, your dad is *every*where!"
I can also report that IU has a wonderful cross country course, and
Purdue's is pretty good. Both very attractive, with lots of wooded
parts. The IU course has some hills, and is reported to be pretty
challenging. The course at Illinois is kind of ho hum, and I don't
think I've been to other Big Integer courses.
