[Husker] Bill in New York

Bill, I'm much more with you than the "I hate him" crowd.

I had a few dealings with him while he was here and he was nothing but a
good guy working his _____ off. It didn't work out here, IMO in large part
due to loyalty to a friend, which is a good quality in a man....just maybe
not in a head football coach :)

Everyone I still talk to today that really knows football say there can't be
more than 10 people on the earth that know more about football than Bill
does. However, I don't think he's the leader/organizer that can make just
about any program work. Surrounded with the right cast and he is a very,
very good football coach. Unfortunately @ NU he was NOT surrounded by the
right cast.

I've always been more charitable to BC than most on this list. It was
amazing to watch the Jets ground game overwhelm the Bengals last weekend.

I wouldn't agree that the WCO was a failure at Nebraska. Our problems were
more on the other side of the ball. If he had even a mediocre DC he'd
probably still be wearing red.

Interesting profile how Bill Callahan rebuilt his career in New York with

All that micromanaging that led to his ultimate failure at Nebraska has now
become a strength, now that he focuses all that detail on the offensive
line.

Here's the telling quote:

"(Matt) Slauson is a testament to that. He played for Callahan at Nebraska,
but with the Jets, their relationship has changed. Slauson said he learned
more from Callahan in the past six months than he had ever learned, in
anything, including in his four years at Nebraska."

Good for Bill that he's finally found his true calling and has found
happiness.
