I'm the one who made the point of Collier leaving the team with less
talent, causing Doc to scramble to get that talent into Lincoln. And
I'm not picking on Merlin, either. I know there are lots of
basketball fans in this state (yes, really) and there are those that
still feel that Collier was a good coach. I think he was a good
coach. My only point was that he didn't leave Doc with much, and
frankly I'm not the only one who says so.

This is a link to Lee Barfknecht's column from Monday in the Omaha
Wierd Jerald. Note what he says about Collier's talent levels while a
coach here.

because of even MORE snow on the ground)

Frankly, if Marec is the star of the Collier years, that's not a
terribly bright star.

But again, I liked Collier and thought he was a good coach. But he
didn't bring in talent to compete in the Big XII, and it didn't get
Nebraska further than the NIT. Doc's had 4 years (but the first was
crippled by the hiring), I'm not sure I'm seeing BIG talent yet, but
we have to give him at least as much time as Collier got.
