Interesting article in the Tucson paper about this. The big surge at this time is that tv contracts expire at the end of the 2011-12 school year. Right now the Pac plays their basketball games on Thurs and Saturday but wants to change its scheduling to include more Sunday games. BYU doesnt play on Sunday in any sports. The new commissioner feels that if expansion is on the line, then it should be considered by school presidents this year because of the TV contracts. He said, It would make sense to expand when you can monetize it with a tv contract.

BYU and Utah are likely in.
That means that the Mountain West is going to have problems, which may leave TCU
ooking for a conference.

Aside from the fact that they've got no geographic similarities (though the
dea
of Texas having to play late season games in places like Ann Arbor, Columbus,
Madison, and Happy Vally is amusing), and the damage it would cause the Big
2, I'd say
"If you want 'em, take 'em." Texas has been a bully in Big 12 politics and I
uspect
their primadonna ways would fit in well with Big 10 powerhouse schools.

The conference Texas SHOULD have gone to is probably the SEC.
