Well, Mike, I'm not suggesting that a 3-game series be used in football, but
that's what the equivalent would be in basketball, I believe. Also, I'm not
attempting to account for differences in taste between the sports; I'm
assuming in this hypothetical scenario that one likes them both equally. But
I do agree that perhaps the sports are not as comparable as I want them to
be.

To your final point, the same can be said about March Madness; the best game
in the tourney a couple years ago was Kansas-Davidson, who would have
predicted that? And that's a matchup you would never, EVER, see without a
tournament of some kind, just like you could replay this football season
over and over and maybe never see a big school take on a small school at the
elite level of competition.

I don't know what to do about the argument that the bowls and a playoff
can't survive simultaneously. My feeling is that they could, but that's one
of those things we can debate endlessly, and we'll never know what would
happen unless it happens, you know?
