[Husker] Leadership and Chemistry

I am not against a change in coaching. I think that TO needs to keep the
steamship moving forward. Too much riding on new expansion campaign, the
migration eastward to the Big Ten, and overall public perception of the
program. I believe that he will conduct his normal end-of-the-season review
with the coaching staff after the New Year. Using facts and data, I suspect
some of his conclusions will result in changes. We've got some square pegs
trying to fit into round holes...and it just isn't working.

One illustrious Husker alumni once quoted, "Should you find yourself in a
chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be
more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks." - Warren Buffet

I am not sure who or where the leaks are coming from; OC, OL - or pure raw
talent that has not been 'cured' properly. I do trust that TO will make the
right decisions on a move forward basis.

My own personal *guess* is that SW will be out...his attention to
interviewing since the Big XII CCG certainly didn't help the team 'focus' on
the fundamentals. However, I have no idea who would be on a short list for
immediate impact with regards to OC coaching.

It sure was disappointing to lose 3 of the last 4. Didn't see that coming.
I though we would lose to A&M, but I thought (hoped?) we had a real shot at
beating OK. (I was so excited in the first quarter of that game I thought I
was going to have a heart attack).

The thing that bothered me most about last night's game was the overall
ineptitude of the offense. We never even challenged, never a threat, much
like the Texas game. We just kind of looked like fools out there, we've all
seen it before over the years, and I really thought those days were over.
Can't really think of anyone to blame for it, the offense that is. Seems
like we got by for a while this season but were finally exposed. It may be
just the players aren't really that good and the coaching isn't really that
good. That 3 man steamroll of our entire OL? Ugh.

I hope SW gets the other job. I don't think he is a particularly great OC,
but he seems like a good guy and there are so many people calling him out (I
guess rightfully so) that I'm afraid he may really get fired and that's
never a good thing. If he gets the other job, everything parts well.

Any thoughts on Barney Cotton? Another good guy and Husker to the core, but
throughout the season, the OL mistakes and penalties, the line simply did
not look well coached a good part of the time. Not all the time, but I
wonder about a change there as well.

So much for the 'attention to detail', 'the boyz are ready to play', 'the
coaches will have them prepared', yada, yada, yada. As a fan, I feel
cheated.

An excerpt from the NU Media Relations accurately sums up the game:
"The Huskies didn't need a successful passing game in the Holiday Bowl
thanks to a hard-nosed defense, a strong running game, solid execution and
perfect ball security. The Huskies committed just three penalties for 30
yards, and did not fumble or throw an interception in the game. Nebraska
committed 12 penalties for 102 yards, fumbled threes times with one lost,
and threw one interception. NU's penalties and yardage were the most by a
Husker team in its 47 all-time bowl games. "

An utter disappointment to the end of the 2010 season. The bowl game
highlighted the (1) lack of discipline and the (2) lack of team chemistry
that reared its ugly head numerous times in the season. We were totally and
unequivocally outwitted, outlasted and outplayed. Let's admit that we've
got some Jackwagons on the team.
However, I am not looking for anyone's head to roll, no public berating of
the young players.just saying that the team has looked "lost" on so many
occasions. We lack positive energy and leadership. Heck, even the
list-members went haywire on gameday!
Further, we will need a much higher level of consistent execution come
10/01/11. We need someone to step up / step in and be a leader. Someone
else already pointed out that the Big Ten is pretty strong from
top-to-bottom - we're not in Mamby Pambyland anymore.

Wishing all of my fellow-list members a more peaceful and more prosperous
New Year.
Thank You again to Mr Mike Nolan for moderating this unruly crowd of thugs,
trolls and Monday morning QBs.
