[Husker] Love me some Mark Cuban

While the bowls are making money in the current world, I'm still struggling to
understand why college football is still holding onto the bowls. Ticket sales
this year are lukewarm at best. TCU, Arkansas, and Wisconsin have sold out
their allotments. But UConn (4,000 of 17,000), Virginia Tech (6000 of 17,000),
Nebraska (7,000 out of 11,000), and Missouri (5,000 of 11,000) are going to eat
significant numbers of tickets that they'll lose money on their trips, since the
schools are committed to purchasing these tickets.
The only possible explanation is that the SEC and Big Ten have control of the
biggest paying non-BCS bowls, and so they figure that while some of their
schools may lose money on bowl games individually, they take in so much money as
a conference compared to the other conferences, it gives those conferences a
competitive edge.
That, and the fact that ESPN owns and operates about eight of the minor bowls is
another reason why bowls still exist.

I like his plan and ambition.
The organization that plans and manages the soccer World Cup did a study a few
years back and showed the NCAA how they could create a college football playoff
and the projected revenue dwarfed the NCAA Basketball tourny. I need to find
the link to that story. I think they said it would be one of the largest
sporting events in the world. The amount of money was massive, but I think it
killed off the bowls, so that money is lobbying against it.
