I suppose that Scott could be right (maybe he knows Bo personally and so
really "knew Bo would start entertaining other jobs"), but what he says
does not ring true for me and so I'm going to politely ask if he uses
the word "knew" to mean "just guessing". Then, I'm going to state a
counter opinion (with the clear statement that I don't "know" what
eiterh Pelini or Perlman are thinking).

Perlman did not "screw" Bo Pelini. If Pelini didn't recognize that he
went a little over-the-top (and Scott seems to suggest that Pelini
doesn't think so and wasn't sincere in his regret, whereas I think
Pelini did recognize it and made a sincere expression of regret), then
Perlman's public admonition was even more appropriate. Perlman has made
clear statements about his support for Pelini, credited Pelini's
success, and recognized the value of Pelini's passsion for the game and
interest in the players. ""Bo has a lot of passion for his football
team," Perlman said, "and there is a strong upside to that."

Most outspoken guys who have strong character (as I believe Pelini is)
can take it as well as dish it out. I don't think that Pelini is the
kind of guy who dishes it out to his players and staff both directly
and in public, but who then bristles at a little remonstration and
correction from an otherwise supportive chancellor of the university
and then immmediately starts looking for another job. I don't think
that Pelini is that kind of guy (at least I hope not), even if Scott
claims to "know" that he is.
