Actually, the teams who do not make the elite eight could simply go to a 
bowl game, as they do now. Similarly, the six teams who do not make it 
to the championship, could go to a BCS bowl, as they do now. The 
championship game could rotate among the BCS bowl sites, as it does 
now.  And, if you eliminate conference championship games, only four 
teams would play as many as 15 games, one more than NU will play this 
season. There are logistics issues, but probably not as difficult when 
you play the first two rounds at home sites, as Mike mentions.
