[Husker] Bo Knows Stubborn

I wasn't implying changing everything, and I too remember the 70's and 80's
NU, I was a lifelong resident of Nebraska until two years ago. Everything
we did, even in the early days under the Bobfather was power running
football. It is clear that the o-line this year can move people off the
line when asked to run the ball, but when asked to pass, things break down.
I think that is clearly a Cotton style, since it really was most of what he
knows.

I was discussing this with my brother as well, and he agrees, fans are too
spoiled with winning it all, when back in our day a 10 win season was a damn
fine accomplishment. I'll take those over the programs that have one 10 win
season, followed by a few 6 and 7 win seasons, and then another 10 win
season. Give me the 9 or 10 wins a year and a chance at a perfect season
and we'll be happy here.

Recollections of the TO era are well colored by the run from 1993-1997,
which was one of the greatest periods for any college football team.
However, it is just as easy for me to remember _heavy_ criticism of
Osborne for continuing to run plays that weren't working. Many of
today's fans might not remember that heavy criticism of Osborne in
his first four years led him to consider the CU job nor even the heavy
criticism in the late 1980s and early 1990s that included the DN's
call for him to retire and SI running a story about the inexorable
slide of the NU football. Osborne couldn't win the big game; Osborne
ran an outdated style of football that couldn't score enough to be
competitive with top teams; Osborne's play calling was too predictable;
etc.

We'd all love to see the years of 1993-1997 return, but this year was
really not much different than most of the seasons under TO. Any fan
who remembers the 1970s and 1980s can affirm that truth. The DN opined
that fans were sick of 1, 2, and 3 loss seasons and so NU should push
Osborne out and get a coach who could win a championship. People need
to remember that even the best coaches don't win all their games every
year and I hope that people have learned from Pederson's firing of
Solich and his staff after a 10-3 season that changing everything is
not necessarily an improvement.
