[Husker] Martinez

Like all of you I'm still a bit down about last night's game. What a great start, then the wheels fell off.
Re: Martinez. I'm not sure I saw much effect of his injuries last night. He seemed fast and juked a lot ( he could put torque on his ankle, foot and knees). He didn't have a lot of room to run; the OU linemen are extremely strong and fast.
The fumbles were especially discouraging. Of course TM is a freshman, meaning he's what, 18? 19? some of those OU linemen will be playing in the NFL next year.
Regardless of what you think about Herbstreit as an analyst, he pointed out something rather telling about Martinez. I don't remember the play, but I think it was a sack. KH observed that OU took away his primary receiver. Rather than relying on his vision, he tends to rely on his feet. These are skills that take a while to develop; checking off your receivers and making good decisions. He'll get better.
Final observation about the wildcat. Clearly we moved the ball the best with this formation. Now I admit I'm very much the novice, but isn't the playbook rather limited in that formation? It just can't work consistently all game can it? It seems to set up the zone read option very effectively, but there's not much of a passing threat. (and admit it, Burkhead's really isn't much of a pass threat except really short yardage situations. Those TD passes have been fun to watch, but they don't look that great.)

Kind of hard to drag Bo along up and down the field, kind of like the commercial
with the car dragging the anchor or piano behind.
