I do not see Carl seriously considered for UM. I would expect they make a push for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford. Certianly he can do better than LA Lafyette, a mid tier BCS school (Illinois) much the same as Mike Stoops going to Arizona. Dennis Erickson will not have a long career at ASU. 

He may need to work at another (non-Bo school) as a DC, but I think he could get almost any DC position he wanted (again like Mark Stoops going to an SEC school).

Um, because it's LA Lafyette?  He has no ties to the school or the
region of the country that I know of, he's from Ohio.

I'm sure Carl's name will come up in conjunction with several coaching
vacancies over the next month or so, as there are probably still a
few coaches who haven't been dumped yet.  The Zookster appears to be
in at Illinois for another year, and the longer it takes to make a 
decision the less likely it is that RichRod will be fired at Michigan.  

Either of those jobs would be FAR MORE ATTRACTIVE than LA Lafayette,
