It weighs heavily on most teams every year, some more visibly than others.
When a player like Martinez goes down, the team is affected a lot.
Wasn't it Oregon that looked on the road to the NC game a couple of
years ago but when their QB went down they stopped winning?
Northwestern without Dan Persa (1st team all-conference QB by the coaches,
2nd team by the media) was a mere shadow of itself and lost badly in the
last two regular season games, because they kept turning the ball over.
Michigan without Denard Robinson would IMHO not even be a bowl-eligible team.
BTW, a healthy Martinez, Robinson and Persa could make for some really
GREAT games next season between Nebraska and Michigan (at the Big House)
and when Northwestern comes to Lincoln. The Nebraska-Ohio State and
Nebraska-Wisconsin games will also be interesting.
The 2011 non-conference schedule could be better than 2010's, too.
Washington looked like it was improving late in the season, and Fresno
State will be looking to be the giant-killer in Lincoln. Wyoming is
the weakest team on the schedule at this point. I wonder who
the 12th opponent will be?
