Hi all,

I was hoping someone on the list could clarify a discrepancy I've
found regarding inscriptions on Memorial Stadium. A University site
<http://historicbuildings.unl.edu/building.php?b=38> provides the
following text:

Inscribed on the four corners of the stadium are the following
words, written by former UNL professor of philosophy Hartley Burr
   Alexander:

Southeast: "In Commendation of the men of Nebraska who served and
   fell in the Nations Wars."

Southwest: "Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the
game; In the deed the glory."

Northwest: "Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the
   true awards of manly sport."

Northeast: "Their Lives they held their countrys trust; They kept
its faith; They died its heroes."

Wikipedia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Stadium,_Lincoln>
has the same verbiage, with three exceptions:

  1) in the first bullet it uses "Commemoration" rather than
     "Commendation";

  2) also in the first bullet, it uses an apostrophe in "Nations"
     (i.e., presenting it as "Nation's").

  3) in the fourth bullet, it uses an apostrophe in "countrys" (so it
     is "country's")

Normally I would discount Wikipedia as less reliable and go with
what appears to be an official University source, but the usage of
the apostrophes troubles me just a bit.

I need this resolved so I can insert the text under the glass of the
poster my wife recently gave me that is hanging in my office--the
newest Big Ten stadium.

What say the esteemed members of this list?
