[Husker] Big Ten Expansion

I expect that Iowa State would be a dominant force in the Missouri Valley Conference... 8^)

If the Pac 10, Big 10, and SEC each expand to 16 teams, I figure the ACC and what's left of the Big East will merge to form a fourth 16 team conference.

In that situation, I figure that Colorado, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State are almost assuredly in the Pac-10.

Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas will likely be targets of the SEC.

Nebraska and Missouri will probably be targets of the Big 10 and SEC.

I'd hate to be Baylor and Iowa State in this world. They could end up being one of the handful of teams that lose if the 69 BCS conference teams shrink to 64 mega conference teams.

I don't know that I would "prefer" the Big 10 to the Big 12 but my fear comes from "What happens if the Big 10, SEC and Pac-10 all expand to 16 teams?" Texas, Notre Dame and Nebraska are among the top ten most valuable sports fanchises (per recent article). Suppose ND and Missouri goes to the Big 10, Texas and A&M to the SEC and CU to the PAC10. If Nebraska doesn't go to the Big 10, where do we end up? If we don't go, Kansas almost certainly will and the PAC10 will likely look at TT and certainly OU (probably courted by P10 and SEC) in order to fill out its 16. A worst case situation is NU sitting with KSU, ISU, OSU, and Baylor looking for a conference. That group cannot sustain its own so we would likely grab the remnants of the Mountain West and/or WAC to create conference. Certainly less attractive than the Big 10.

Given the way the big 12 has treated Nebraska since its inception, I wouldn't hold a lot of loyalty to the conference. We would lose a long-standing series with KU and MU but I can't imagine what else we lose. Trade that against the additional money and my vote says we are an early exit team, not a remnant.

Best regards,
Duane Feldman

The only, and I mean ONLY reason I would be in favor of this is because
I would likely see all the Huskers games without ponying up the PPV
dollars (the Big 10 network is free and most of the conference games are
on ESPN or ESPN2 as well).

Selfish on my part.
