1. Newspaper coverages all noted that Zac Lee has recovered what they
call his percentage mojo (15 for 18), and it's easy to see why:
against VTech last week, the Huskers' pass protection left much to be
desired whereas yesterday it didn't. Does anyone imagine that pass
defense was overlooked in last week's practices?
2) Last week's practices received moderate praise from the coaching
staff every day, something we haven't seen and heard in quite a
while. Most encouraging.
3) From what I could see on TV, injuries to Thenarse and Asante
occurred away from contact with other players. When Asante went down,
suspicions immediately focused on an ACL problem, but apparently that
wasn't the case as preliminary reports call the injury "temporary."
4) Henery has racheted up his punting game to 45+ yards per kick
combined with amazing accuracy. It seemed to me that Adi's kickoffs
were better than ever. Husker punt returners did well, and coverage
teams seemed to have improved. Reliability in this area is quite
comforting to fans.
5) What's up with the erratic center snaps?
6) Cody Green convinced me his long ground gainer in the first game
was no fluke.
7) I love to see it when a walk-on like Jase Dean of Bridgeport makes
an outstanding solo play. The hit he laid on the Cajun punt returner
reminded me of the hits Shanle laid on the Michigan (?) punt returner
in the Alamo Bowl a few years go. The instant replay showed that the
refs blew that particular call.
