Thanks, Scott. I wasn't trying to argue, just really wanted your perspective on the play. 

I saw it in a different light and wondered if it was just my scarlet and cream glasses skewing my view!

Lynette I don't really think arguing about this play is productive at this point, but I have some familiarity with defensive schemes and on that particular play the safety is supposed to cover the deep ball once the cornerback lets the wide receiver go and not get caught staring into the backfield thinking he may have to come up for run support, and in my opinion that is what happened. When a defense knows the game has come down to a point where the offense needs a huge play players have to absolutely sure of their responsibilities or what happened Saturday can happen- the safety in that situation is above ALL else not to let anyone get behind him, and I am almost willing to bet the coaching staff was screaming that on the sidelines (or should have been). Looking at the tape it does not appear he slipped or had any sort of physical issue on the play so that is why I would call it a gross mental lapse. 

Of course I have absolutely no idea what the player was thinking, but I do know what his responsibility was on that play. We will all never know for sure, but I am fairly confident the coaching staff will address (or has already addressed) the responsibilities for that scenario and that the player knows what he did wrong on the play. I am over it, and hopefully he is too as he is too valuable a player this year to let this bother him into the remainder of the season.

And you are right, there were many mistakes made in the game including those by the coaching staff, but my response was regarding the mistake made on the long pass play. Unfortunately, this particular mistake was the last one of the game and therefore most obvious.

The sun came up Sunday however.

How do you figure it was a "gross mental lapse?"  How do you know what Matt was thinking and why? 

I'm sorry, I just don't think a mental error or miscue on one play caused us to lose the game. It caused the score to shift which resulted in our loss --- BUT, allowing the runback on the initial kickoff, not getting into the endzone and settling for 5 field goals, not getting a first down to keep the ball out of VT's hands at the end of the game, they all contributed to our loss --- and many included mental errors ------- including ones by the coaches!

Rob I have to respectfully disagree with this statement- in my opinion,
Taylor made a play that anyone who could scramble around a little and
then throw a ball about 50 yards to a wide open receiver could have
made. In fact, the ball was almost overthrown, as you can see the
receiver had to stretch a bit for it and he actually made a great play.
And as someone previously mentioned, the pass rush was more of a
'containment' on that particular play, although for the life of me I
can't figure out why they did not all-out blitz Taylor, especially since
he does not seem to want to run the ball anymore.

You are right that one player should not be blamed for a loss, but I
believe that play was a result of a gross mental lapse, not a great QB
play.

But, $&%# happens.
