The non-review is pretty cut and dry imo, the receiver must maintain control thru the course of the out of bounds movement. If the ball doesn't come out, TD.
What really killed me was the hope the defense gave me on the first two plays after the 81 yarder. Had they just scored on that play or the next it would have meshed into one, but to drive them back to the 11 and then the imcomplete gave me hope to say maybe this will work out. In hindsight Suh should have taken the personal foul penalty for the horsecollar tackle for just ripping him to the ground.
Helu was great, 169 yards, plus picking up most of his blocking assignments. I would have liked to see our TEs more involved (yes some missed passes) and we need some routes that allows Paul to gain seperation. But in general I think receivers need to step up and make a play; take some of the pressure off of Lee. If the ball has to be a perfect pass for them to catch it, it is going to be a long season. Lee is going to begin to over-focus on the receiver and telegraph throws.
That one quick slant on 3rd down (don't remember to who) was great. 3 step drop then pass, no time to over think just timing and faith, but then I didn't see it the rest of the game.
I've rambled long enough, I'm very disappointed with this loss, but at the end of the day I am not embarrassed by the overall play on the field like I was in years past. Hindsight yes go for it at 4th and 1, but considering the defensive play it never occurred to me that they would have given up that 81 yarder, maybe a series of short passes on a prevent defense as time winds down, but not one big play like that.
Heartbroken, yes; but still excited about the rest of the season.

I, too, had the same question about the review - and can't believe this hasn't gotten more play on the list.
I couldn't hear the game call that well at the bar - anyone have any insight? I thought the whole purpose of review was for that situation, which was clearly a touchdown. I've had three VT fans call or email me to say they thought it was a TD.
And another topic - I'm surprised at the "gee golly whiz that sure was a good effort" attitude. We wouldn't have seen that on the list ten years ago after a loss like this. I'm all for "accentuate the positive" - but I think there are a lot of takeaways to discuss: inability to get in the endzone, secondary breakdowns, playcalling on the last drive (offensive), etc.
Just so I'm not accused of being a pessimist, here is other food for thought: Helu's dominance, the best PK in the country, defensive containment (for 58 minutes).
I know that's a lot to ingest, but I wanted to get some topics out there for discussion this week...
