[Husker] Pride

I can't disagree with you Steve, but it certainly is disappointing
nonetheless. The Huskers did play well, especially on D and OK on O.
Having said that, I feel as good about the Huskers in a loss as I did in
wins over Arkie St and FAU. In the earlier games, NU kept the score down,
but didn't shut down the opponents. In this game, the D did a great job
shutting down the VT O but didn't keep them off the scoreboard. The basics
are there, we just didn't finish. We need to learn and dominate the North
plus TT and Baylor. Kansas is looking solid so far, however and we will
have a similar challenge in Lawrence.

I'm calming down, but slowly.

I realize a lot of HuskerListers are disappointed and upset by the
squeaker lost to Virginia Tech, but my take is a little different.

I'm proud of this team.

Every early-season game is also a practice, and this one was real
test for the Huskers who played with passion and pride. In my book
they passed the test with flying colors, and this tough loss will
provide them with incentives 'way beyond what a narrow victory might
have done.

This year's team - - like last year's squad - - is very much a work
in progress, and now the coaches and players alike realize what needs
to repaired, what needs to be revamped, and what they must to be
competitive in Columbia and beyond.

I wrote earlier that I did/do not believe this is "our" year and that
next year will be our breakout year, even without Suh. We are not
only heading in the right direction but accelerating.
