Unfortunately, as a DirecTV subscriber I did not get to see the game today, but the Big-XII Football Saturday on Fox Sports Net showed some of the plays. I listened on the radio and was once again impressed with the defense. And other than the play at the end of the game, the special teams played well too.
As the offense continues to struggle, we fans need to remember that the Tom Osborne coached teams struggled offensively too. We like to remember the last five years of Coach Osborne's tenure as head coach, but there were times during the mid to late 80's that Nebraska looked like it has the past few games. The Big-XII is a lot different than the Big-8, and it would have been interesting to see how Coach Osborne would have done in the new conference.
Back to this season. It does look like Coach Pelini is making the adjustments he needs to make. Moving Coach Watson from the booth the field is a good one. Now he can work directly with the offense. This offense is young and should be assisted with the direct coaching. Nebraska needs to find its identity on offense. It looks to me that they are still searching for what kind of offense they will be.
Staring Cody Green today was a good move because it allows the coaches to see how he plays in a game situation that isn't too hostile (the radio crew stated that it was all Nebraska fans in the stands). Cody Green did okay in his first start, but I suspect that Zac Lee will start against Oklahoma. If Cody had a huge game and Nebraska rolled over Baylor big, then he may have started. Oklahoma's defense is the best that Nebraska will see this year. I don't know if Cody Green showed enough to start. But it is Coach Pelini's decision and not mine.
I'd like to see both Zac Lee and Cody Green on the field at the same time. That would shake things up.
Well, a win is a win. And I am proud of this team. They could have folded up the tents, but coaches have not lost this team. We fans need to remember our fight song and be true blue in all kinds of weather.
Go Big Red!
