[Husker] Thoughts on NU vs ISU

Nebraska needs to reestablish the line of scrimmage on offense (by a
consistent application of the ground game, IMHO).

It is interesting that the NFL is moving back to the power I formation.
For so many years, this was Nebraska's bread and butter.

Passing is okay, but once a team become one dimensional due to a lack of
a running game (either to it not working, or it being abandoned), then
the opposing defense has the upper hand.

Football really hasn't change much over the years. Yes, the players are
more athletic and the plays have become more complicated, but the game is
won and lost in the trenches. The team that controls the line of
scrimmage will generally win the game.

If we look back on the three losses, it is clear that the defense has
played well enough for the Huskers to be undefeated. A one point loss at
Va Tech (granted the defense game up a huge play at the end of the game,
but if Nebraska was able to kick a field goal when it had the ball at
first and goal on the six yard line instead of punting - Nebraska could
have won the game). The defense held Texas Tech to 24 points (they only
scored 24 and 28 in their two previous losses). The defense held ISU to
12 points. So, I believe that the defensive side of game is under control
and much improved from where it was two seasons ago.

The offense has not really improved much over the past several seasons.
It is a middle of the road offense, and the stats bear this out. It that
a bad thing? Not necessarily, but now that Coach Pelini has the defense
under control he can turn his focus on the offense. Special teams have
been rather inconsistent lately, they may be due to injuries and trying
to get players more playing time. But special teams will also need to be
addressed.

Now for some perspective and tradition. ISU has given Nebraska fits and
for some unknown reason is able to get Nebraska to cough up the ball. It
just hasn't happened in Lincoln for quite a while. Well, every dog has
it's day.

Coach Pelini will get things turned around. He did it last season, and
will do it again this season. I still believe that this team will go on
to win 9 games this season and will still win the Big-XII North this
season.

Go Big Red! (Beat the Bears!)
