You continue to say great offense. I still have to quibble.
Nebraska's passing
attack was good, but this was the first time in a more modern era of
getting to
that type of passing attack. So it's no big surprise on the passing numbers
and the setting of school records. But the drop off on running the football
left NU in the dust as far as an offense goes. Plus compare NU's offense to
those around it in college football.
The last 2 years of the BCE overall NU was in the top 15 in total
offense. ONLY
1 year was the passing offense in the TOP 10! The numbers vary a little bit
between NU and ESPN's stats, but they're close enough overall.
But points wise (that's part of offense) still could not crack the top 15.
FROM 1970 to 2001 NU WAS IN THE TOP 15 IN SCORING OFFENSE/GAME EVERY YEAR BUT
2!!!! Those were 1973 and 1977.
NU's - national rankings (per/game)
2004 Passing 89 Rush 34 Overall (yds) 72 Points 57
2005 Passing 47 Rush 109 Overall (yds) 93 Points 67
2006 Passing 23 Rush 24 Overall (yds) 11 Points 18
2007 Passing 8 Rush 67 Overall (yds) 11 Points 29
Year Games 1st downs Total Off Rush Pass Points
2004 11 17.6 363.2 176.3 186.9 25.0
2005 12 18.4 320.3 96.0 224.3 24.7
2006 14 20.4 414.6 (14) 170.5 244.1 30.6
2007 12 24.3 468.2 (9) 144.4 323.8 (7) 33.4
So when comparing NU's offense to those around it, good not great
because to be
great you need to score more often than NU did.
