While I do agree on how bad the offense is, I also think it is a bit of a perfect storm leading to this. New QB, injured RB, co-starting RB, dismissed before the season, no possession WRs, and our "big play" WRs seem to forget to grabs their hands when they run out of the locker room. IMO, if we had some thunder to Helu's lighting and a go to receiver, this would be a completely different team. We need a Swift and a Q. Helu tend to go east/west rather than north/south and condsidering our receivers tend to drop even perfect passes, all the defense has to watch is McNeil and have the LBs defend the edge. One bruser that could effectively bust it up the middle or a receiver that at least caught everything that came his way (even if he had no YAC) could open up quite abit. But as it now we have no receiver that Lee can get back in a rhythem with as we have so many dropped balls which tends to lead to more dropped balls and bad passes.
Everyone keeps riding Watson and the he needs to change his offense to the personnel, but I don't think there is anyway to modify the offense to the personnel as as we don't have a go-to-receiver to focus on or a healthy go-to-RB to focus on. Our TE is great, but he is already the only person on offense you need to account for every play. Maybe simplify the offense, but even in a day that Lee and the O-line plays decent, the rest of the offense finds a way to lose.
I don't know the answer other than just to stay the course. The majority of these kids are D-1 athletes that were recruited for a reason. We all want play-makers, but right now the play-maker we need can simply catch a 5-10 yard pass to keep possession. ------Original Message------From: Wesley & Barbara BartonSender: husker-bounces at tssi.comTo: husker at tssi.comSubject: [Husker] OffenseSent: Oct 25, 2009 2:01 PM
This is a terrible offensive team. After years of watching Nebraska teamsthis must be the worst darting back to the 1950's. I cannot remember so manycritical turnovers in one game. We do need a offensive coordinator that hasability to adjust his play calling as the game progresses. He should alsoknow who is capable of playing and not put in injured players. There are somany things wrong with this team there is need to mention them.
Three questions-can we get Turner Gill to handle the offense? Will Pelinitolerate such a move? Where is the Tom Osborne in put?
