This is one of the reasons (not the only) why I finally dropped Dish
after nearly 10 years of service with them and went with Cox. We had
several issues with Dish and some of their suppliers in the last
couple of years that just drove me crazy.
Mike actually understates it a bit - Comcast is THE largest cable
company in the country, not just a major one. And they proposed to
Direct TV a price for Versus that supposedly was twice or more the
previously negotiated price. But on the other hand, supposedly Direct
TV was going to repackage Versus as part of their higher tier (extra
money paid by user) service, so supposedly Comcast made the proposal
in order to lessen the profit that Direct could make by doing so.
Lots of supposed's in this, but I had been sort of tracking this sort
of thing when I was a Dish user. And Mike hits the nail on the head -
its the user who gets it in the end. Either lack of access to a
channel that doesn't have a replacement for the programming it
provides, or gets nailed for higher fees for programming they were
already paying for.
And, by the way, I'm not all that crazy about Cox either.
