I just heard a radio interview in which the discussion was the books
that had influenced US Presidents, in the context of Obama's decision
on Afghanistan (which makes this decision seem relatively simple in
that it matters so much less). The expert's conclusion was that
President's latch on compelling stories from history to support their
conclusion rather than seeing as the author suggested that every
situation is different and the best we can learn from history is how
to approach decisions, not what those decisions should be.
