It was pretty obvious that Nebraska was flat yesterday, particularly on
offense.
I think everyone (including us fans) believed all the hype after the
Missouri win. Missouri isn't really as good as people thought at the
beginning of the season.
We have to remember that the offensive players are still from the
previous system. I don't know how much Coach Pelini wants to change from
the old system, but there is still work to do on this side of the ball.
If there is a lead blocker, then the running game does pretty good.
However, most of the time, there isn't one and running game isn't as
effective.
I do wish they'd get the running back into space using the short passing
game, and let Roy Helu, Jr run the ball.
I also think Coach Watson is using too many plays (I recall the they
claimed to have 300 or so offensive plays). This is too much for college
football. I believe one of the other issues is that with all the plays to
chose from there may not be a cohesive game plan.
I remember that Coach Osborne would throw different looks at a defense on
the first few series to see what the defense was giving the offense. He
would then develop his game plan. I just don't see this with Coach
Watson. He doesn't really seem to set anything up offensively. When you
have a lot of talent, then mixing up plays works well. But Nebraska is
still a young team offensively and I don't think that this approach will
work.
The sun rose this morning. Nebraska is a little ahead of where they were
last season. Nebraska should be beat ISU and Baylor (although this game
is a little worrisome if Nebraska takes the Bears too lightly and look
ahead to OU). So, they should be 6-2 going into the OU game.
Looks like KSU may be the team to beat in the north, as they are now 2-1
in conference. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Coach Pelini will get the ship pointed in the right direction. Nebraska
will do well, but may have a couple of more losses before the 'regular
season' is over. I still think that they will win the North. Yes, Texas
will be tough (and it looks like Texas will win the South), but I think
it would be good for the program to get back the conference championship
game. And I will repeat my bold predictions: Nebraska will win the North
this season; will win the Big-XII Championship next year; Coach Pelini
will win at least 9 games a season as head coach.
Keep the faith!
Go Big Red!
