Again, this is from that same guy on a message board I belong to. He's
really good at breaking down numbers and I thought I'd pass this one along
because frankly, it really surprised me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not clear where this originated, but it's simply quite wrong. (From TT
O-line coach Matt Moore? From RedRaiders.com?)

"According to Texas Tech offensive line coach Matt Moore, the Red Raiders
feel perfectly comfortable matching up All-Big 12 right guard Brandon Carter
one-on-one against Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.... The Red
Raiders alread boast one of the best sack-to-pass attempt ratios in college
football, and they feel they don't need to do anything differently against
Suh."

No. Not true.

Texas Tech is average-at-best in that regard. Look below.

Sack to Pass-Attempt Ratio: (Big 12 teams in bold)

--89: Iowa State (One Sack allowed in every 89 Pass Attempts)
--63: Cinncinnati
--61: Oklahoma State
--55: Houston
--47: Boise State
--46: Georgia
--43: Arizona
--40: Texas
--39: Nebraska, Pittsburgh
--37: Georgia
--35: Auburn
--34: Stanford, Michigan State
--31: BYU
--30: Tennessee
--29: Oklahoma, Kentucky
--28: Kansas
--27: Missouri, Penn State
--25: Fresno State

--24: Texas Tech (13 Sacks allowed in 315 Pass Attempts)

--22: Texas A&M, Wisconsin, USC
--18: Colorado, Mississippi, Clemson
--17: Ohio State, Washington, TCU
--16: Baylor, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Oregon
--14: Miami
--13: UCLA
--12: Kansas State
--11: Minnesota
--9: Illinois
--8: LSU, Virginia
--6: Virginia Tech

The Bottom Line:

Should Pelini choose to go after Sacks, Texas Tech will yield them.

Sack Rates of TT Quarterbacks:

--Potts: 24 (9 Sacks in 235 Pass Attempts)
--Sheffield: 35 (2 Sacks in 70 Pass Attempts)
--Doege: 4 (2 Sacks in 8 Pass Attempts)

There you go.

Just something to think about....
