I think (maybe it's just the optimist in me) that this kind of publicity
have an opposite effect that it would reduce the amount of money these items
will 'fetch' because a person who's a big enough fan to want these things
won't want to do it at the expense of a great Husker player.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Well from what I understand, the auction is going to proceed regardless.
This money would be used by Taylor to actually buy the items himself at the
auction. I hope there aren't any sleazy bidders that show up just trying to
turn a profit, but now that this news it out I'm sure they'll find their way
out to Scottsbluff.
