I don't know exactly what ESPN does to prevent voting abuse, but
I would guess that the two techniques would be (1) putting a cookie
on your machine when you vote that could be detected when you vote
again. However, it is easy to get around that by deleting cookies
and closing your browser (or using multiple browsers). So, if you
use your laptop from both networks, you may need to clear cookies.
It is alleged that ESPN also (2) records IP addresses of votes.
However, there are ways around that. If you connect and use DHCP,
you may get different IP numbers each time your Internet connection
is reset. Really, I don't know how they try to prevent repeat voting,
but I suspect that they like for people not to know.
