> I am talking about his opinion about players being that should be ejected. I am not sure if it was Asante or Thenarse that hit the receiver out of bounds and then he brought up the hit on Reesing (KU) and then the hit on the OU guy. I agree that it was a late hit because the guy was out of bound but it did not look like a helmet to helmet shot. Looks like he just ran into the guy with his shoulder to me. I do agree with the penalty but it did not look flagrant, but then again I had a few beers in me at that time.
Whoever it was, he didn't try to pull up, but I'm not sure he could have
avoided the contact completely.
Is Asante a dirty player like some we could mention, past or present? I
don't really think so, but if he makes it in the NFL it'll be interesting
what their post hoc officiating thinks of his style of play.
I think the continued harping on the KU hit was unnecessary (and probably
was more because there was time to fill in a game that had gotten, at least
temporarily, not very interesting), especially because from one of the
angles it appeared to me that Asante didn't hit Reesing with his helmet
at all, certainly not leading with his helmet.
I'm also not happy with the new 'helmet to helmet' rule, because it's so
difficult to call correctly in real time, I've seen about as many mis-calls
of it (both as penalties and as no-calls) as accurate calls. I wouldn't
be surprised if it gets revised for next season, but I doubt they'll give
the replay booth any say on it. (The replay officials haven't exactly
had a great season, either.)
It also appears there's a lot more leeway being given by officials for
celebrations after big plays, especially by the defense. (But the
whole rule is stupid and so inconsistently enforced that it has led
to speculation about bias on the part of some officials. Derrie Nelson
would have been flagged 6-8 times a game.)
I do think he had a valid point about officials not kicking players out
of the game frequently enough. I only recall seeing one expulsion all
season.
