[Husker] Greetings from Hawaii

I’ve been “benched” these past three weeks due to beginning an extended
vacation (until April) in Waianae, Oahu, Hawaii, where Maini and I are
house-sitting for a relative. Tough duty, that!
I had planned to watch the Oklahoma game from a watchsite in Honolulu
where Husker fans were rumored to congregate on High Holy-Hanna days, but
the site became a victim of economics two days earlier, so I had to listen
to the webcast between running honey-do errands. The following week we
went to the new-and-approved watchsite (turned out to be something of a
dive) where, sadly, no Husker fans attended, so we watched in splendid
isolation as the Huskers tromped Kansas. Fortunately the K-State game was
televised here in the Islands, and the same applies tomorrow for the game
against the Buffs.
I’ve found several dozen Staffordshire Bull Terrier fanciers to date but
only one Husker fan (who also happens to own two Staffords). Surely I
can’t be the only one in Oahu!
Those of you with prolonged and rententive memories may recall that early
on I hoped the Huskers would be competitive in every game regardless of
the win-loss record. So far, so good.
A couple of thoughts:
1) A good deal of media puzzlement’s been expressed as to why NU’s O-line
play has been relatively ineffective, but it ought not be much of a
mystery. In a nutshell, the problem has been this: the depth chart does
not contain a single offensive tackle who is a senior. At no other
position except possibly QB is seniority more important. When Burkes had
to leave early due to medical reasons, the O-line suffered a serious blow
from which it‘s never fully recovered. Actually, the remarkable thing is
how well the Huskers have done under this handicap.
2) Someone (I honestly don’t remember who) wrote something to the effect
that Zac Lee is a mediocre quarterback. Those of you who have been around
this list for a while will remember that similar charges were being
leveled at one time or another against Scott Frost and Scott Shanle - -
Shanle in particular. That the same Scott Shanle who’s playing his ninth
season in the NFL this year. I suggest you all stick around for a while
because next year young Zac will be playing at a whole nuther level. In
fact, the very talented Cody Green may not be able to beat him out of a
job next year.
3) The brothers Pellini are the real deal.
