Public smear campaign? Absolutely. This is ugly. Conducted by Perkins? I'm
not convinced of that. Oftentimes these things take on a life of their own,
once they're out there. Someone starts a discussion on a message board,
people start telling others what they read, a reporter hears people talking
and remembers a tip he got, then he prints a story and all of a sudden it's
a campaign. Just like any rumor, it's very difficult to tell where things
started. Which is why I have a tough time blaming Perkins for this whole
deal, at least right now. That said, the guy does come off like a
nincompoop.
