This isn't solely about him being fat, but what is being reported/discussed on the radio is that the weight is a contributing factor. You are correct that winning keeps donors happy, KU isn't winning. In fact they are closing out what should have been the greatest season in school history with better recruits than the school has ever had in one group on a 7 game lossing streak.  Additionally, Lew didn't hire Mangino (or Self).  

It would be great to live in a world where physical appearance does not play a role in how people judge other people.

Exactly.  So would any fan, especially ones with deep pockets.  No one cares what a good coach looks like.  This is about something else, Mangino may have real problems.  But I can't believe this is about him being fat and the AD is a ghoul and dreaming up some scheme to discredit him and fire him because he's fat.  No way.
