With all those high schools, how did he manage to avoid Lincoln East?  I hear they offer some very special classes that are drawing transfers from as far away as Oklahoma!

While it's true that Patrick Witt had not said anything until today, his father did allude to issues to both the World-Herald and Journal-Star:

To the World-Herald, feeling the need to "protect" his son:  "There's a lot that went on," the elder Witt said. "I wish I could say more, but I really can't go there."

To Steve Sipple of the Journal-Star:  "I’d love to be able to tell you the whole story, but I’d rather not, and it would probably take an hour anyway," Gene Witt said.

And there is Witt's history.  He transferred three times in high school:  Atlanta to Lilburn, GA for his junior season to Dallas and finally Wylie, TX for his senior season.

Witt certainly has the right to find the situation that fits him best.  But at some point, someone is going to ask him to make a commitment. Six schools in seven years does raise eyebrows. People can make their own decision as to whether the allegations Steve Sipple reported on were true or not.

Witt's a smart kid.  He's got 4.0 GPA, and if he's decided that academics are more important to him, great for him.

After reading both these articles, my take is that both Joe Ganz and the Corn Nation article are presumptuous to the extreme.  What sounds the most reliable and accurate is when Patrick Witt says that Joe Ganz has no idea why he left.  It seems that Patrick and his father has conducted themselves with class and dignity and, in my opinion only, Joe Ganz, Steve Sipple (and his "sources"), and anyone else who mouths off about this situation does so from ignorance.  Patrick made a decision he has every right to make, hasn't uttered one negative thing about anything or anyone, and is moving on.  Why tear him down?

Joe Ganz talked a lot yesterday about his future, Zac Lee as a potential successor, as well as Cody Green.

But he also had some comments about Patrick Witt's departure:

"Stuff is not going to be given to you here.

"Things are not going to be handed to people. People are not playing favorites. You have to work for everything you get."

Witt today responded in a statement to the World-Herald:

"Joe clearly has no idea why I made the decision that I did, and I don't expect him to. There is more to my life than football, and that will be evident when I decide upon my next school."

If that means that academics is the reason why he wants to leave, more power to him.  If that's the case, he might follow his brother to an Ivy League school.  (His brother played quarterback for Harvard.)
