First let me say that it really doesn't matter to me whether Witt left
for academics or athletics. I have no investment in him as a fan - he
hasn't played enough to be able to buy into him as the next star. As
far as the Witt's conducting themselves with class, perhaps, but as
Mike points out above, they certainly left the impression that there
was a whole lot more behind his leaving that we just can't know about.
Why even say that? Why not just a simple response, or a simple no
comment? But we are left to believe there's something else hanging
over the situation, but we may never know. And now comes a former
player who has an opinion. Joe's not on the team, and certainly can
respond to any questions without feeling like he's hurt the team. And
he's talking about a former teammate who's left the team. He says
that you just can't have things handed to you, and who's better to
have that certain opinion than Joe? A guy who rode the pines perhaps
too long. Sorry. I gotta agree with Mike here. Too much was said by
the Witt family - more than a simple no comment. And given the
family's history of moving to get a better position, that just begs
for speculation on why he left and what type of kid he is. This isn't
being disrespectful, just curious.

Besides, this is so-o-o-o-o much better than speculating on the firing
of a certain former coach or the "alleged" coaching abilities of
another. There's not much left to beat on there.
