Just my opinion, but I felt both backup quarterbacks should have been
given a lot more time in the Western Michigan, San Jose State, and
New Mexico State games. (I realize that Ganz also needed playing
experience and that big-time college football is pretty much of a
"now" affair, particularly when it comes to quarterbacking, but even
so I regard these first three games partly as missed opportunities.)

Needless to say, there was no wiggle-room in the Virginia Tech,
Missouri, and Texas Tech games, but there was plenty in the Iowa
State and Baylor games. Both guys did get quite a bit of exposure at
the Oklahoma game in the fourth quarter because OU blew the Huskers
out of the game and almost out of the stadium.

The Kansas game needed Ganz most of the game, but it wouldn't have
been a bad thing at all if he could have been rested a little when he
was hurt. That he wasn't rested and the others not allowed to spell
him temporarily, I regard as poor coaching. Both backups got some
time against Kansas State but (again in my opinion) too little. No
real chance for them to see action against Colorado.

Surely someone will contest my thesis, but jj asked for my opinion,
so I've given it.
