Basically, the NCAA rules are that a lateral (parallel to the line of
scrimage) or a backwards pass is a live ball once it hits the ground
and can be advanced by either team. Only a forward pass, a ball
moving towards the opponents goal line, is dead once it hits the
ground. If there was a pass (I haven't reviewed my DVR yet today but
I plan to enjoy that recording several times in the next several
months) that Ganz made that was parallel to the line of scrimage or a
backwards pass, and it was ruled down by the officials, it was a
mistake on the part of the officials. I don't remember one but I
could be a bit hazy - in fact, I AM a bit hazy, but smiling!!
