There was a time when college rules prohibited the defense from 
advancing a fumble after it hit the ground. In the 1974 Cotton Bowl, NU 
scored a controversial touchdown off a fumble recovery when the ball 
bounced off a player's leg to a defender, who ran it in. No replay in 
those days, of course. I believe the rule was changed shortly thereafter.
