Thanks for the additional information!
My wife went into the concession area during that time, and when she
came back noted that the guys on the TV coverage showing inside were
all over the refs about how coould they have called it a fumble. I
suspected as much because in the view we had you could see the QB's
hip come up before the ball came out, and that must have been caused
by his knee hitting the ground--but without seeing the knee it
looked doubtful there was enough evidence to overturn. I was plenty
nervous. Also think you are right on the booing explanation.
