Why does that statement in that context remind me of "But I stayed at a
Holiday Inn last night!"

I love the part where he claims the only reason he left Nebraska was
"because Bill got fired." As if it was Cosgrove's decision to leave and
he had no part in Bill getting fired.
An earlier part of the interview makes it sound as if he just gave up
before the 2007 season ended:
KC: I don't know, I didn't even look at it, because the way things went
down there, it was done before the season was even over. We all knew we
were fired before that. It was just a tough time, and I don't look back
at that. But, we did lead the nation in sacks, did you know that?
Thank God this bozo is somebody else's problem now.
