Way back in ancient history (or about a week ago) I gave my prediction on
the game. I said the under looked really good, but I was concerned that
Watson would do something in the three weeks to foul that up. Damn, if he
almost did it.
I know the paper says that Watson had all of those plays in the playbook,
but may not have had the players. Since the vast majority of reads by Lee
were to take the ball up the field rather than hand off, what's been missing
in that equation? It seems less likely it was a lack of players and more to
do with either convincing Lee that he can run, or Watson changing his
instructions to let him really run. Now, Lee still runs with his head down,
but he sure looked much more effective than Green. Cody wasn't nearly as
convincing on those reads as Zac was, and the radio guys were very
complimentary on Zac's ball handling.
So, is this just for this game, or are we likely to see running QBs, Wildcat
formations, and the TE catching balls again next year?
I for one can't wait to find out.
