This has probably been coming since those contract negotiations went sour
last year. I tend to agree that it seems like a witch hunt, but it's tough
to know the facts. If he did try to punish the kid for not practicing, I
won't shed any tears for him.

As I understand the situation, James was cleared to play by the doctors, but
claimed a "mild concussion." Leach didn't MAKE him practice but rather
conformed to the team rules that injured players must still attend practices
but stay on the sidelines. Since the indication was a concussion, the shed
was the closest building that could afford shade (recommended for those with
concussion). A trainer was assigned to watch (either to make sure he didn't
leave or to make sure he didn't faint depending upon your perspective, I
guess).

Say what you will, but standing in the shade is not even 1/10th the
"punishment" of practicing in the hot Texas sun for 2-3 hours.

A tempest in a teapot IMHO, albeit an excuse for the AD to get back at Leach
for the salary negotiations. I can make a strong case that termination
before the investigation was complete is totally inappropriate, but acting
today rather than tomorrow saved $800k in bonuses for TT.

Anyone want to bet that TT pays way more than that amount when the attorneys
get done with this case?
